Turn on Tap to Pay on iPhone
Accept Apple's Terms and Conditions once on this iPhone. It takes about a minute, and it is tied to the Apple Account signed in here.
Before you start
Two things have to be true before a tap can happen:
- Stripe accepts your account for card-present payments. This is a property of the Org’s Stripe account, not of the phone.
- Apple’s Terms and Conditions have been accepted on this iPhone. This is a property of the phone — or more exactly, of the Apple Account signed in on it. Accepting on one iPhone does not set up another.
Pippin never remembers whether the terms are accepted. Apple is the authority on that and Pippin asks each time, so a status you see is a status that is true now.
Steps
- Open More › Settings › Tap to Pay on iPhone. You can also reach it the first time you tap Take a payment.
- Read How Tap to Pay on iPhone works if you want Apple’s own walkthrough first. It stays available in Settings afterwards, so this is not your only chance.
- Tap Set up Tap to Pay on iPhone.
- Accept Apple’s Terms and Conditions. This is Apple’s screen, presented inside Pippin. It takes about a minute.
- Your iPhone configures itself. A progress indicator shows how far along it is.
- When the status reads ready, it is ready. The Settings screen shows the date the terms were accepted on this iPhone.
Good to know
You need to be signed in to iCloud. Apple needs an Apple Account to accept the terms against, and the setup stops with a plain message if there is not one. Sign in under the iPhone’s own Settings app, then come back.
Setting up a second time is silent. Apple only presents the terms when they are not already accepted, so a repeat run shows no terms screen. The accepted date does not move, because nothing was accepted that day.
If the Apple Account linked to Tap to Pay on iPhone is turned off or changed, set it up again from Settings › Tap to Pay on iPhone to link it afresh.
If Stripe will not accept the Org’s account for card-present payments, the message says so. That one is between the Org and Stripe, and no amount of setting up on the phone will change it.
